Commercial health clubs account for 18.7 million members. On a share basis, commercial clubs garner 47% all memberships. There were 39.4 million total health club members in 2003.
The total not-for-profit sector (YMCA's/JCC's/Hospital-Based Clubs/Residential-Municipal/University and Military Facilities) accounts for 36% or 14.1 million members. The sizeable balance of 15% is represented by miscellaneous for-profit facilities: Coporate Fitness Centers, Aerobics Studios,Resorts,Spas,Hotels and Country Clubs.
