  Several IHRSA members have reported that a club member or employee is going through or has completed a 'sex change.' This can present a dilemma as far as which locker room an individual should use, or even whether someone should be allowed to join a club, if the facility is single-sex.


 
 
  IHRSA's Position Outlook
Health club operators must be aware of the laws in their cities and states and ensure compliance with laws protecting transgendered individuals from discrimination.


 
Each year, more cities, towns, and states are enacting laws explicitly protecting transgendered individuals from discrimination.
